Chennai: Metro Rail operations will cause drinking water supplies to be stopped in five zones for 36 hours; see information here.

Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board Office

Due to the construction activities of Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), the drinking water supply will be interrupted in zones 5, 6, 8, 9, and 10, from July 12 10 a.m. 2024 to July 13 6 p.m.

The construction of the metro line on the Purasaiwalkam Main Road in Zone 5 would affect the pipeline transporting drinking water from Kilpauk Water Treatment Plant. Parts of Thiruvika Nagar, Anna Nagar, Teynampet, and Kodambakkam will thus have halted water supplies.

Purasaiwalkam, Periyamet, Sowcarpet, George Town, Muthialpet, Walltax Road, Egmore, Chintadripet, Pudupet, Chepauk, Kondithope, and Otteri will have interrupted supplies. Not having water service during the specified period would be Ayanavaram, Sembium, Perambur in zone 6, Kilpauk, Villivakkam, and Kellys in zone 8, Tiruvallikeni in zone 9, and T Nagar and Saidapet in zone 10.

The Chennai Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board advises the people to register the address and save enough drinking water and contact the metro water hotline at https://cmwssb.TN.gov.in for water supply in case of emergency needs. Tanks routinely supply drinking water to low-lying areas and unconnected sections without any interruption.
